Ready… set… prep! Everything you need to check off before arriving in Staunton for the 2018 ASC Theatre Camp.
Checklist for Everyone
- Review the ASCTC 2018 Packing List together to make sure campers bring everything they should – and nothing they shouldn’t.
- Decide whether you’d like to turn your time at camp into transferable college credit from Mary Baldwin University.
- Decide whether you’d like to participate in the Extended Experience Week (XXW).
Checklist for Campers
- Read all the plays in your session. We have provided links to full copies of every play being produced at the 2018 ASC Theatre Camp – so you have no excuses.
- After you have read all of the plays in your session, complete and submit the Audition Form for your session.
- Prepare your monologue for the auditions, which take place on the first full day of camp. Not sure where to start with prep? No worries – we’ve got some tips for you.
- Get ready to have the time of your life.
Checklist for Parents:
- Make sure tuition is paid in full by the session due date (the Monday two weeks before the start of the session). For information about your account, enter your ASCTC 2018 Account ID into our Account Status Update Request form.
- Confirm your travel arrangements for drop off and pickup. If you have requested travel assistance, make sure to notify and confirm your arrangements with camp staff by sending us your camper’s travel details, including flight numbers, carriers, and arrival times.
- Help your camper practice their audition monologue.
Move-In and Orientation
Each session begins with a move-in and orientation day. Campers and their parents should plan to arrive in Staunton on that day (Sunday, June 17 for Session 1 and Sunday, July 15 for Session 2 of ASCTC 2018). Parents should plan to stay through the orientation session and then bid their campers farewell before dinner.
Campers may move in to the PEG dorm at 201 E Frederick Street between 10:00AM and 2:00PM on Orientation Sunday. Campers and their parents may dine together in downtown Staunton for lunch that afternoon. We begin our orientation meeting at 2:00PM for all campers and parents. Following the orientation meeting, parents depart and campers start three weeks of Shakespearean fun and adventure!

10:00am-2:00pm: Campers move in to the PEG Dorm
Enter the PEG Dorm parking lot from E Frederick Street. Look for our counselors in camp shirts for a hand with your luggage! Visit the check-in table in the PEG lounge to receive your t-shirt, orientation packet, and room assignment. Check out your room, and complete the room condition checklist with your roommate. Hang out in the PEG Lounge and Courtyard, and enjoy lunch at a restaurant in downtown Staunton with your family.
2:00-3:30pm: Camper and Parent Orientation Meeting
Campers and parents gather in MBU’s Hunt West for staff introductions and review of camp schedule and policies.
3:30-4:30pm: Campus Tour
Preview the places where campers will be spending the most time: the rehearsal spaces, the MBU campus, and the delightful blocks of downtown Staunton.
4:30-5:30pm: Tour of the Blackfriars Playhouse
Tour the world’s only recreation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre, which just happens to be your laboratory for the following three weeks.
5:30pm: Parents depart – see you in three weeks!
5:30-6:30pm: Dinner for Campers and Staff
Dinner will be served in the MBU Dining Hall.
6:30-8:00pm: All Camp Meeting
Icebreakers and secrets.
8:00-9:30pm: Pre-Audition Workshop
Campers break into small groups to work with RDAs on their monologues before Monday morning’s unified auditions.
9:30-10:30pm: Free time
Get to know your new friends!
Time to start getting ready for bed.
11:00pm – Lights out!
And just like that, the first day is done!
Final Performance Festival
Parents and siblings, families and friends: you finally get the chance to see the fruits of our labor when you see your camper strut and fret an hour upon the Blackfriars Playhouse Stage. Three weeks of hard work, big choices, admirable failures, and surprising successes culminate with the Final Performance Festival at each session’s end.

The Play’s (not) the (only) Thing
The Final Performance Festival is more than just the sum of its shows. Camper families are also invited to kick off the festivities with Sunday brunch at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel before joining the crowds of adoring fans and friends for the performances in the Blackfriars Playhouse.
During the one-hour lunch break, feel free to grab a bite at any of Staunton’s fabulous downtown dining establishments. Or, streamline that process by pre-ordering boxed lunches from the Baja Bean to enjoy during the lunch break.
Do not order a boxed lunch for your camper — we will feed them — or make plans to meet up with your camper during the lunch break. They’ll be hard at work, and not permitted to leave the Playhouse between shows.
When the curtain calls have ended, group photos have been taken, and the Playhouse is all packed up, friends and family will reunite with their campers at the Celebration Picnic hosted by MBU.

Eat, drink, and be merry. Celebrate the experience, the unexpected lessons learned and the incredible accomplishments made together over the course of the camp journey. Celebrate them together, with all of your families. No matter how many you had when when you arrived in Staunton three weeks ago, you’ll have a brand new family to add to the list before you leave — your camp family.

Admission is free and open to the public.
Seating is first-come, first-served.
11:45 am – Love’s Labour’s Lost
12:45 pm – Lunch Break (1 hour)
Pick up preordered lunches in upstairs lobby.
Additional lunches will not be available for sale on the day of the Festival.
Campers are not permitted to leave the Playhouse.
1:45 pm – King Lear
2:45 pm – Coffee Break (15 minutes)
Complimentary coffee served in the upstairs lobby.
Feel free to step outside and stretch your legs or visit By & By.
Don’t go too far! The final show will begin promptly regardless of your attendance.
3:00 pm – The Knight of the Burning Pestle
4:00 pm – Strike and Photos
Photo session on the Playhouse stage: group photos of each cast and an all-camp photo.
Parents are welcome to stay and take pictures as well; if you decide to do so, please stand behind the official photographer and do not use your flash.
4:45 pm – Celebration Picnic
Held on Mary Baldwin University’s campus in the Hunt West Dining Hall

6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Camper Check Out
