Don’t take our word for it: see for yourself what campers and parents have to say about their experiences attending (or sending their camper far, far away so that they could attend) the ASC Theatre Camp.
It was simply amazing! My daughter loved ASC camp. We were so impressed with the camaraderie of the staff and campers. We were all amazed at the level of excellence and entertainment of the showcase and the final productions. What an honor for our teenager to have performed Shakespeare on a professional stage.
She expanded her understanding of Shakespearean theatre, language, and history. She made many friends and lifelong memories to cherish. The campers [in her] cast felt they had say in the interpretation and final product of the play, so they took ownership of a very controversial and provocative play. I love that she got to see…
I was very impressed with the organization, competence, commitment of the staff and wide variety of subjects offered to the campers. My daughter has quite a big brain and was challenged and delightfully focused every minute – that speaks volumes to what ASC is offering her in the three weeks of camp.
This is the best camp and I don’t know what I would do without it. I’ve learned so much about my favorite things, and met some of the most incredible people.
“I think it was a fabulous, fun, and one of a kind educational opportunity. I felt very comfortable leaving my child in your care. She had nothing but glowing reviews. She loved all the RDAs and I liked that they were there to not only check on the kids, but also help them handle some…
This was one of the best theatrical experiences I’ve ever had. I got to expand on every point of knowledge that I was interested in, and I learned so much about myself as an actor
THIS CAMP IS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. I now have a second phenomenally weird and amazing theater family for life. Also I love every single one of the ASC actors with literally every fiber of my being it’s not even funny.
A. I wouldn’t be confident enough to be auditioning at these programs if I didn’t have this experience, nor would I have started to believe that maybe I had what it took to do this. B. Watching other people do what they love inspires you to take control of your own life in very interesting…
There were many times I found myself thinking ‘I can’t wait to go to rehearsal’. I enjoyed working together on our performance with a very close-knit group of people. More rehearsals would always be better, but I felt thoroughly prepared for the final performance.
Extremely professional–you challenge the teens to do their best and then step it up several notches. It was amazing what the teens accomplished in such a short time. It’s my sense that every minute of every day was well spent–there was a good balance of really hard work and focusing and fun, down time. The…
I never know what to say when people ask how camp was. Normally I just say “wonderful”, but it’s hard to explain the tight sense of community and fun. I will recommend it to everyone I know.
I am beyond grateful for this experience. I have met so many life long friends. I felt truly safe, valued, and loved. I will never forget the memories I have made here. This goes on my list of reasons to live. Thank you for everything.
7 things to love about ASCTC: 1. My daughter found it thru her acting class and was instantly excited. 2. She was thrilled to do any acting camp, but even more so that it was Shakespeare. 3. Mary Baldwin campus is beautiful, quaint, and a safe environment. 4. It did more than just keep them…
The MBU campus, and location in Staunton, is perfect for this program. I love that he lived in a dorm, and had the opportunity to live in a college environment but that it was all within contained circumstances. Staunton is a charming town filled with friendly folks.
This was a well executed and organized camp which provided an opportunity of growth and development to my camper. A fantastic experience.
It is by far the best experience, period. If your kid is even remotely interested in Shakespeare, but love theater, send them. You won’t regret it. They will come back with a ton of good ideas, new skills, confidence, and they will be exhausted.
What made you decide to send your teen to ASCTC? This was my camper’s 3rd year … after the incredible experiences she had the first two years we never considered another camp.
What made you decide to send your teen to ASCTC? The website conveyed a commitment to quality, experience, and thoughtfulness. Having been to the Globe in London, the images of the Blackfriars Playhouse online clinched it for us.
“I was very impressed with the organization, competence, commitment of the staff and wide variety of subjects offered to the campers. My daughter has quite a big brain and was challenged and delightfully focused every minute – that speaks volumes to what ASC is offering her in the three weeks of camp.”
Not only have I made lasting friendships and important connections, I learned life lessons thought the three weeks that will stay with me for a long time.
“Our daughter learned so much self-confidence and independence. We expected her to learn more about Shakespeare, his plays and her craft, but were pleasantly surprised at how much more she learned.”
“It seems rigorous from my standpoint. My kid was safe, and allowed the opportunity to explore ideas not always accessible to high school students through the supplemental class.”
Does your camper feel more prepared for college having gone to ASCTC? “Without question. I think this was a phenomenal opportunity. These campers will have had the knowledge and experience of having already gone through a similar experience so that when they do it for real, it won’t be so intimidating. They know that they…
[Camp] is a phenomenal and educational experience like no other in the world. The environment and friends you make and knowledge you gain is parallel to no other.
“Best investment we’ve ever made in a summer experience for our son. Worth every penny to see him developing social/interactive and collaborative skills, as well as his confidence in himself.”
I think it is a terrific pre-college experience one which my daughter absolutely loved. Now she knows she can not only survive living with a roommate but enjoys the company.
This was our first experience with ASC Theatre Camp. We were very impressed with the program and staff. They were always very responsive to questions and emails, and made the decision to send our son very easy.
If I do do theatre of course camp is helpful, but theatre is very helpful in politics because you need to be good at public speaking and in most political aspects.
[Attending the ASC Theatre Camp] was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I learned so much. It was a literal dream come true!
What made you decide to send your teen to ASCTC? He might kill us if we didn’t let him come. Truly, he’s happiest at ASCTC.
As an “old hat” ASCTC parent, every camp my children have attended has gone way above and my expectations. The staff and counselors are amazing. My daughter has learned so many things! The camp is definitely hard work, but so worth it. I am so grateful that I found ASCTC, it has truly been a…

Without question I think this was a phenomenal opportunity. These campers will have had the knowledge and experience of having already gone through a similar experience so that when they do it for real, it won’t be so intimidating. They know that they can live away from mom and dad and that they will make…
We sent our son across the country to this program based solely on the recommendation of a friend whose son attended a few years ago. It did not disappoint. They keep these kids busy and learning the whole time they are there. Staunton and Mary Baldwin U. are the perfect place to try out a…
My self-confidence improved monumentally during the time I was at camp. I went into camp shy and quiet, constantly fearing that I was going to be judged negatively. By the time camp was over, I truly believed that it didn’t matter if people judged me because I am enough just how I am.
The proof for me that the camp was successful is in the increased level of self-confidence that is so obvious at the end. The bonds made between staff and fellow campers speaks volumes to so many life changing and enhancing experiences received by each one.
Phenomenal experience. The kids loved it and really learned and grew a lot. Very well-run and the instruction and the performances were remarkable. And, the kids working with college instructors, professional performers, attending Blackfriars – and ACTING on Blackfriars — that was incredible.
ASCTC is a three week bliss, a place where I felt entirely at home. Surrounded by intellectual peers and superiors, every moment, in and out of class, was an education. I met 37 of the world’s finest human beings there, and my only regret is that I didn’t get to spend more time with each…
Does your camper feel more prepared for college having gone to ASCTC? Absolutely. But I think it made him a better person as well. We didn’t really view the program as college prep – more just as helping with his love of theater and Shakespeare and broadening his experience.
